It is important to make a plan before you film on location so you are fully equipped and prepared with what you need for this location. For example you could be filming in a location known for bad weather, so you'll be prepared to bring protective covers for the quipment and umbrella's for the reporter and crew.
If you do not make a plan before you go out on location you could end up with damaged equipment from bad weather, poor sound and possibly interferences from pedestrians and vehicles if filming in a busy area.

This clip has been filmed on a busy road in a wet area causing cars to make big background noise and the reporter getting soaked from cars driving through puddles. If I could've done this differently I would have not filmed on a busy road as you cannot hear the reporter clearly. And if I had to film by that location, I wouldn't have put myself next to a big puddle where I can easily get splashed. Overall I would have chosen a quieter, less busy and dryer area near the location to prevent everything that happened in that clip.
